Hudson, Ohio (September 4, 2008) – Hudson, Ohio will be making a major transformation this October, as the city goes “In the Pink” for a community-wide breast cancer awareness and fund-raising event.In support of the National Breast Cancer Awareness Month and several well known charities, the month long event will kick off on Friday, October 3 with several activities. Highlights include:
An “In the Pink” art show opening reception featuring the work artists whose lives have been touched by breast cancer will be held from 5:30 -8:30 p.m. at Hudson Fine Art and Framing Company
My Little Red Wagon will make pink remembrance flowers and offer free pink breast cancer awareness rubber bracelets to the first 200 people who visit the store.
The Learned Owl Book Shop will donate 20% of sales from 5:00 – 8:00 p.m. and continue their donations each Friday in October
Additionally, a Walk In the Pink event will take place at 8:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 5 through downtown and is open to all ages. All registered walkers will be entered to win prizes. More than 35 businesses are on board to go “In the Pink” for the entire month with the goal of raising over $30,000 to be donated to several c harities including Triple Negative Breast Cancer Foundation and Susan G. Komen for the Cure. Area businesses and community areas will be decorated with pink lights, ribbons and other items to support the event.
The first annual In the Pink event, held in October of 2007, included 34 businesses and raised more than $25,000 for three breast cancer related charities. Downtown 140 was an integral part of the event, collecting $15,000 during their Cocktail Benefits. For 2008, Downtown 140 will once again host their Sunday cocktail benefits with live entertainment and silent auctions on October 12, 19 and 26. Reservations are required.
On Thursday, October 9, Jewelry Art will be hosting a trunk show from 10:00 am – 8:00 p.m. and will offer a raffle for a piece of jewelry.
On Saturday, October 11, Miss Chickpea’s Funky Fibers will host a “knit-in” on the First & Main Green, featuring pink scarves, chemo caps and socks.
About Gardens and KGK Gardening will be offering a “healing garden” in their courtyard with fountains where pink candles can be purchased and lit as personal tributes to loved ones.
