The Merchants of Hudson have teamed up with Hudson Community First to host a city-wide International Festival, Friday, March 4, 2011 through Saturday, March 12, 2011. Over 30 businesses throughout Hudson will transform their spaces to represent individual countries with decorations, music, flags, maps and interesting facts and quizzes about their country, allowing guests to travel the world without leaving town.
The event will kick-off on Friday March 4, 2011 with an International Food & Spirits Event from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at participating businesses. Each business will offer visitors a chance to partake in food and beverage samples from their host country as well as to participate in activities related to their countries.
Passports for the event are available at participating businesses or can be downloaded online at www.merchantsofhudson.com. Guests will be encouraged to visit multiple countries to learn interesting facts, sample each culture and collect stamps or stickers on their passports. Prizes will be awarded to individuals who have collected more than 15 stamps/stickers and anyone visiting more than 30 businesses will be entered into a drawing for a Merchants of Hudson prize pack which includes a $50 gift card, gift certificates and merchandise donated by the participating merchants. Passports can be brought to any one the following locations for verification and prize entries: Green Roots Collection, Hershey’s of Hudson, Janet Rhodes Fair Trade, The Learned Owl Book Shop and Wild Bird Center. The deadline for passport verification is 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, March 13th.
On Saturday, March 12th, an International Dance Festival and Closing Ceremonies will be held at Young Actors Studio (86 Owen Brown Street, Hudson), starting at 11:00 a.m. The parade of flags will take place followed by performances from local dance troupes and a prayer for world peace lead by the Hudson Ministerial Association.
